Electrical drives

Section purpose

This section describes the blocks used in the simulation of electrical drives and converters.

The library "Electrical drives", together with the libraries EC - Dynamics (ECD) 2.0 and Mechanics, allows you to create models of electrical drives, including:
  • control system;
  • power converter;
  • motor;
  • elements of mechanics;
  • load.

A distinctive feature of the models is the ability to simulate the discreteness of the control system in period and level, which makes it possible to simulate the behavior of digital electrical drives and converters as accurately as possible. In addition, the "Electrical drives" library allows automatic generation of a program for the controller using SimInTech code generation tools.

Contents of the section

When creating the library, the most popular and promising types of electrical drives were considered. Including synchronous and asynchronous vector-adjustable AC electrical drives, as well as an electrical drive with a brushless DC motor.

In addition, this library allows you to simulate various DC-DC, AC-DC and DC-AC voltage converters.

The "Electrical drives" library consists of five sections:
  • Electrical drives and converters (ED). This subgroup contains standard elements that can be used in voltage converters and in any electrical drives, regardless of the type of motor.
  • Asynchronous motor (AM). In this subgroup there are elements from which it is possible to make up various structures of vector-controlled electrical drives with an asynchronous motor.
  • Synchronous motor (SM). In this subgroup there are elements from which it is possible to make up various structures of vector-controlled electric drives with a synchronous motor with permanent magnets on its rotor.
  • Brushless DC motor (BDCM). In this subgroup there are elements from which it is possible to make up various structures of electrical drives with a brushless DC motor.
  • Hybrid stepper motor (HSM). In this subgroup there are elements from which it is possible to make up various structures of electrical drives with a hybrid stepper motor.

This section provides examples of building models of electrical drives using the "Electrical drives" library.

Library functions

Library functions:
  • modeling and setting up models of electrical drives and converters;
  • automatic generation of the program for the controller.

Prospects for the development of the library

The following library updates are planned:
  • Creating new demo examples.
  • Adding additional blocks to subgroups that expand the possibilities of using the library.
  • Increase in the number of processor types for which automatic code generation is possible.

Tips for using the library

To simplify the understanding, models should be compiled based on the demo examples of the section. Use the help system and reference literature listed on the help pages to understand the block structures.
