The block is designed to simulate a linear piezoelectric actuator without taking into account saturation. The actuator consists of a set of identical piezoelectric plates sandwiched between the electrodes (Figure 1).

In steady-state mode, the actuator is described by the equations:



where:
  • sC and sR – positions of bodies at ports "C" and "R", respectively, m
  • FC and FR – forces at ports "C" and "R", respectively, N
  • N – number of layers
  • Kу – elasticity coefficient of a layer, N/m
  • U – control voltage, V
  • K – electromechanical coupling coefficient, N/V

The direction of extension of the piezoelectric element is taken as the positive direction of the force FR. The positive voltage direction is taken as the direction from port "+" to port "-".

The number of layers (N) is displayed next to the block.
