Belt drive

The block is designed to simulate a belt drive consisting of two pulleys and a chain. A block is a submodel that includes blocks (Figure 1):

- The blocks Belt drive pulley simulate the interaction of the belt with the pulleys
- The blocks Mass simulate the movement of the belt segments between the pulleys
- Blocks Translatory spring and Translatory damper simulate viscoelastic forces of belt deformation

The belt mass, the stiffness factor and the damping factor can be defined manually or calculated based on the geometric dimensions of the belt and the material properties. In this case, the mechanical characteristics are calculated by the formulas:

- M – mass of the belt per unit length, kg/m
- S – belt cross-sectional area, m2
- N – number of belts, for a flat belt N = 1
- ρ – belt material density, kg/m3
- K – belt elasticity coefficient, N/m
- E – belt elastic modulus, Pa
- L – distance between pulleys, m
- D – belt damping factor, N·s/m
- C – viscosity damping factor of the belt
